In Ogre remembers the events of the year 1991

Remembering events 23 years ago and mentioning the defenders of the barricades of 1991, in the evening of January 20th in the square by White Wigtail (Baltā cielava) were burning candles and fire of memories.

Chairman of the Ogre District Council Edvins Bartkevics, remembering events of those days, was talking that in those important days for Latvia weren’t unconcerned people – neither guarding television tower at Zakusala nor other relevant objects. All were brave and strong – both those who were located in “hot zones” and those who were waiting at home.

Also other witnesses of those days were sharing their thoughts – Ivars Kalkis, Aivars Zunde, Aina Kunga and Alvis Berzins.

Of course, it is sad that with every year by fire of memories gathers less and less people. Participants of the event were also talking about that – why is that?

School youth definitely should know more about the events of 1991, because it is history of Latvia, present defenders of barricades were talking about this issue also.

At the end of the event present people united in common song and set out for Ogre Music School, where conversations continued watching documentary movie “Barricades”.
