On 6th April 1995, the town council of Ogre decided to support the request of Jānis Pujāts, who at that time was the archbishop emeritus of Riga, to assign a piece of land located on the Upes Prospect and Meža Prospect corner to the construction of the church. The construction of the church was finished in 1997. The architect of the building is Laimonis Šmits. The guardian of the church is the Saint Meinhard –  an apostle in Latvia. A mahogany altar – made in 1901 at the workshop of R. Heizermanis and designed by V. Bokslafs – is a cultural monument of national importance that can be seen at the church. The altar is a gift from the St. Maria Magdalene Congregation of Riga. A 6,500 sq.m garden is located by the church. A metal cross (architect D. Asarīte) and a stone altar (sculptor J. Karlovs) were placed in the garden in 2001.
