The memorial plaque which is placed on the Ogre Island symbolises the historical events of Latvian nation on the way to become an independent country. It is located on the bank of the river Daugava, where a house called Lauči once stood. This was the place from which the soldiers of the Second Latvian Riflemen brigade went across the river Daugava into a battle against the German army on 18th October 1916. The plaque was made after the suggestion of Egils Helmanis from Ogre. The memorial plaque was unveiled in November of 2008, celebrating the 90th anniversary of Latvia's independence and honouring the battles of the Second Latvian Riflemen brigade during October of 1916.
